Grasshopper vaporizer

Vaporization fans have always waited impatiently for a device that will be undetectable even to the most inquisitive eye. In 2013, Hopper Labs launched a crowd founding project of a unit dedicated to drought - Grasshopper. It is a real dream come true for discreet vaporization and although it is not free from a few minor shortcomings, it sets a completely new trend in terms of discretion, leaving the competition far behind. It is a typical product founded and created by vaporization enthusiasts. I invite you to analyze my favorite pen together! ;)

Kit contents

In an elegant, black box with a characteristic green grasshopper, we find a fairly modest set of accessories, consisting of:

  • Grasshopper vaporizer
  • silicone mouthpiece
  • spare metal filters
  • USB chargers

In addition, on the manufacturer's website you will find a short manual and some interesting information on the use of Grasshopper.

Experiences

I must admit that the steam quality is at a very decent level for such a small device. The aroma is clean and the taste is distinct. The only drawback is the very short path that the steam has to travel from the stove to our mouths. The effect isa hot-air mouthpiece and high steam temperature, especially during vaporization in higher temperature ranges. When it comes to sensations, Grasshopper works best in the range of 180-200 ºC, although in this case the temperature of the emitted steam will be noticeably higher than in the case of devices with a longer steam path.

Usage

I have to admit the Grasshopper is very user-friendly. The principle of operation is very simple. Unscrew the mouthpiece on the opposite side to the ON / OFF button to gain access to the combustion chamber underneath. Then we load the chamber with finely ground herbs, without special tamping. The great advantage of the tested unit is the fact that it will work both with a fully loaded stove and with a small amount of drought. After reattaching the mouthpiece, the next step is to set the temperature using the knob next to the power button. The knob has five notches representing the set temperature level and, for ease of use, the symbols "+" and "-". Once you've selected your desired temperature, simply press the power button to start your session. The LEDs on the body will first turn red to indicate that the unit is heating up, and then blue to indicate that the desired temperature has been reached. Grasshopperit also has an automatic shutdown system after 18 seconds of inactivity. The device itself - like a pen, fits perfectly in the hand. Another big advantage of the tested vaporizer is its maintenance. It is hard to find a device that is easier to maintain. Simply dip the silicone mouthpiece cover in warm water and wipe it. You can use a little baking soda if you really want to get rid of any smell. Clean the mouthpiece with the filter with a soft brush, then immerse it in a vessel with isopropyl alcohol, shake it gently and leave it for a few minutes. We can sweep the inside of the combustion chamber with a soft brush once in a while and that's it. The whole process is quick and fun.

Temperature range

I must admit that for such a small device, the Grasshopper has quite an impressive temperature range. The vaporizer works in the range of 130 to 210 ºC, and the adjustment is done with the knob on the top of the "pen". Each of the dashes on the knob represents a change of 20 ºC. For more precise adjustment, it is possible to set the knob between the notches. The trouble is, for such a wide temperature range, the knob is quite small and it can be problematic to select the temperature perfectly. The second thing is the temperature range itself. The lowest setting is 130 ºC, the next 150 ºC and the next is 170 ºC. Snagbut all three are too low temperatures for effective vaporization of herbs. In fact, the vast majority of the time you will be operating between the 3rd and 5th incisions.

Perhaps a better solution would be to take the output temperature between 170-180 degrees C and increase the temperature by 5-10 degrees C with each incision. This would facilitate fine adjustment on such a small knob.

Production quality

The Grasshopper is a really elegant device that also fits perfectly in the hand. You can see the attention to detail in every element. All parts fit together perfectly and the whole gives the impression of a very solid product. I really like the fact that, just like in a pen, even turning the unit on and off is done by pressing the button on the top. Another advantage is quite a large chamber that can hold up to 0.3 g of herbs, which, for such a small unit, is an amazingly large result. This does not change the fact that the Grasshopper can also handle a small amount of material well. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, the drawback of the device is the heating up mouthpiece, which is even more noticeable at the moment ofput to the mouth. The manufacturer has solved this problem by using a removable silicone cover. Unfortunately, this is not an element that complements the aesthetics of the entire vaporizer. But I really like the magnetic USB charger. It is as elegant as the device itself. In addition, there is the possibility of vaporization while charging. That's it!

Battery

Battery life is another plus of the Grasshopper. Considering the small size and short heating-up time of the unit, I expected that the battery would not be the strongest point of the vaporizer. I must admit that the producers surprised me. The working time on a single charge is really decent. It may not be an ideal device for long sessions with friends, but it was also not designed for that purpose. It takes approx. 60 minutes to fully charge the battery. An additional plus is the fact that the battery is removable. We can always buy a spare one and thus significantly extend the working time.

Discretion

Well, we got to the strongest point of the vaporizer. Grasshopper is one of the most discreet, if not the most discreet vaporizers on the market today. Everything from dimensions to shape makes this unit unrecognizable even from a short distance. You can easily put it on your desk, put it in a shirt pocket and it will absolutely not attract attention.

The method of vaporization itself does not attract unnecessary attention either. After all, who of us has not seen or put a pen to our lips? In the event of a difficult situation, we are able to efficiently hide the device in your hand or quickly put it in your pocket. In terms of discretion, Grasshopper gets strong 10/10!

Summary

Grasshopper is a stylish and definitely specialized vaporization tool. It is dedicated mainly to one person, and the producers put the greatest emphasis on discretion. In addition, the amount of steam produced for such a small device is really good. If we add a large stove and high quality workmanship, I am sure that this unit will find its fans. The disadvantages include the heating up mouthpiece and the inaccurate method of temperature regulation. However, I don't think it will scare someone offand whose priority is to stay incognito.
